August 03, 2005: Athens
Athens was the first stop on our trip to Greece -- which is pretty obvious, since that's where we flew into. It is a nice city, but you can see everything of significance in a day and a half (the amount of time we spent there). Maybe it is because I am not a scholar of ancient Greece, but after a while, the ruins you see look just like the ones you saw an hour ago. My favorite aspect of Athens was streets -- they had endless outdoor cafes with people sitting around, drinking coffee, wine or beer, chatting for hours. Nobody seemed to be in a rush to go anywhere. I also really enjoyed all of the rooftop restaurants -- having views of the illuminated city and the Acropolis while eating was pretty amazing.
These shots are of the Acropolis and the surrounding ruins. I definitely dropped the ball while in Athens by focusing on the ruins, instead of the city.
Unrelated: Although I didn't like it much when I first picked it up, Coldplay's X & Y has grown on me.
