March 25, 2005: This Is Not A Beer Advertisement
Last night, I saw The Soundtrack of Our Lives again -- this time at The Knitting Factory. It was actually their second show of the night -- the first one was a Irving Plaza -- so they did not take the stage until 1am. Unfortunately, this show was not as good as the one I saw at Bowery a few months ago. The Knitting Factory is a very small venue, and Soundtrack is a very loud and animated band. There is a simple equation that follows:
Small Venue + Loud Band = Bad Accoustics & Ringing Ears; and
Small Stage + Mobile Band = Inhibited & Claustrophobic Band; therefore
(Bad Accoustics & Ringing Ears) + (Inhibited & Claustrophobic Band) = Not A Great Concert
By the way, to people in the audience who bring their cameras: I understand you like taking photographs of concerts (I do, too). But you are not members of the media, so having a camera does not give you a license to show up to a concert late and push in front of me or elbow me in the face so you can take a photograph. If you want to get up close, get to the show before me, or pay for my ticket.
