December 15, 2004: Escalator To Hell
Spending any amount of time at Macy's in Herald Square during the holiday season is a sure-fire way of getting a really bad headache. The only way of taking a break from the chaos is the escalator. Sure, it is slower than an elevator, but not being packed like sardines is worth the decrease in speed. Taking an escalator down to the ground floor of Macy's, which is complete pandemonium, feels like going down to a lower level of Dante's inferno.
I really like the fact that Macy's has kept some of the old escalators, such as the one I photographed. I tried to find out how old it is, but was unsuccessful. If anyone is able to find out, please let me know.
[Unrelated: my concert luck has been really inconsistent lately. I saw The Moving Units last week... they were so bad, I walked out before the end of the show. Click here to see a picture of the show from my cameraphone.]
