September 08, 2004: Rutgers Home Opener 1
I went to college at Columbia, where there was not much, if any, campus life. New York City was my campus. On the other hand, my friends from high school went to schools with campus lives. The only time that I went to house parties, basketball and football games was when I visited them. Whenever I visited them, I had a great time, but by the end of the weekend, I was ready to leave.
This past weekend, I went to the Rutgers football season openener against Michigan State (I grew up in New Jersey, so of course a few of my friends went there). Five years after graduating from RU, they were just as excited to be there as when they were undergrads. It made me think about how it would be nice to have a college that you feel strongly about. Sure, I am glad that I went to Columbia, as it helped me get where I am in life right now. However, I never had, nor do I think that I will have, that strong connection to Columbia that my friends who went to campus life schools have to their alma maters.
