July 26, 2004: The Hives
Last week I saw The Hives play at Irving Plaza. They put on an incredible show; probably one of the best groups I have ever seen, performance wise. Even if you are not a fan of their music, you will have a great time. The Hives expertly wield the tool of cheese and cockiness to get their message across. Looking like a 2004 version of an early '60s Mick Jagger, he preened and posed, kicked and jumped, all the while playing the band up to the crowd in the third person. The band had complete control of the crowd from the first song until the encore.
If you missed the concert, I highly recommend that you see them the next time they are around.
