July 19, 2004: Chinatown
I was a really skinny kid growing up. This stems from the fact that I was a really picky eater, and that my mom was a really bad cook (however, I will give her credit now - she has gotten much better and much more creative). In fact, I was given the nickname "Fish & Eggs" by my family because I hated both so much that I would gag at the mere smell of them. However, times have changed, and I now eat anything except canned tuna fish (which has an odor that still makes me nauseous).
Making my way through Chinatown this past weekend, I may have added some things to my list. Does anything here look appealing, especially considering that they were sitting in the middle of crowded streets all day?
What is your least favorite street in Manhattan? For me, it is a tie between Canal, Broadway (south of 4th), and St. Marks between 2nd & 3rd.
[Unrelated: I saw Elton John in concert with the London Symphony Orchestra and Choir at Radio City this past weekend (note: the review is from a different night, but he played the same setlist when we were there). It was phenomenal... and I am not a even a huge fan (although I do like his older stuff). I feel that it is my duty to see certain musical icons in concert before they die. I missed out on seeing Nirvana and George Harrison, so I am much more cognizant now. He played for 2.5 hours without taking a major break, and played every note perfectly without any tablature - which I really respect. The crowd went buck wild the entire time.]
